2009-12-07 Rural Metro goes NEMSA |
|
|
Well the vote was Thursday night and the majority of Rural Metro employees voted NEMSA as their new Union. The employees are very excited to have NEMSA coming in and having their own voice. Over the next few weeks they will be voting on their Union stewards and doing steward training.
This very exciting for the San Diego area to have three private companies (Priority One, AMR, Rural Metro) with the same Union. This will come in handy for contract negotiations and perhaps if we work together being seen as a profession and not a stepping stone.
I have already spoke with County EMS about perhaps letting some of the Union EMS employees sit on some committees. They welcomed it with open arms and told us of one committee already.
So please take a moment to say hello to both our newest members Priority One and Rural Metro.
Also, we have the bid tomorrow so don't forget to call in. We have a labor management meeting on the 10th so if there is anything you would like brought up to management give me a call.
Once again thanks for your support and be safe out there.
Your shop stewards. |

2009-11-06 Rural Metro voting for Union Change |
|
|
Hey folks,
Just wanted to up date you on a few things.
Rural Metro has been working with NEMSA to vote them in as their new Union. This will be helpful for us in negotiating times. We can help them and they can help us. Also, congrats to Priority One So. Cal. for joining the NEMSA team. Perhaps if NEMSA gets all or most of the private companies in the area we could push for some real change.
Also, we had a Labor Management meeting recently and some of the items discussed were: Liners and hoods for the PPE jackets, Zone 2, Yellow safety jackets in various sizes, rig maintenance, radio training, and web access to your time sheets.
In your last paycheck there was instructions on how to use the web to check your kronos times for your paychecks. This is a good tool to keep track of your hours and pay.
Also, for those who need small safety vests AMR has a few. Get them while they last.
I will be meeting with Travis next week to hear the final tid bits on the Zone 2 transition. Will keep you posted.
Riverside AMR is in negotiations over the next few months I am keeping in contact with them to stay apprised of any thing we can use in our up coming negotiations.
I will skip a Union meeting in Dec. because of the Holidays. I will pick some dates in January and keep you posted. Thanks to those of you who came to the last meetings. I appreciate your support and love the company.
Till next time,
Your Union Steward Team
