Boston AMR Picket (October 19, 2006)
NEMSA NorthEast Steward Training (November, 15 -
20, 2006)
After
IAEP’s flagship Local 1 in Boston fell to NEMSA on September 21, 2006, NEMSA
was officially certified as the AMR Northeast employee’s representative on
October 6, 2006; since that time NEMSA members have been anything but quiet. In
the first 45 days NEMSA has filed over 15 federal labor violation charges against
AMR’s repeated unfair labor practices. The NorthEast
members responded to AMR’s violations with a very successfully executed
informational picket, which shocked AMR and drew media coverage.
The
next action was to get the Shop Steward ranks up, so NEMSA solicited and received
over 170 nominations, of which 135 new Shop Stewards were elected. Scores of these new shop stewards have
already received the in depth two day NEMSA training and are on the road armed
and ready to go. One of the former IAEP
stewards stated “IAEP gave us a grand total of an hour
and a half training, I learned more in the first 15 minutes from NEMSA.”
